...that there is a place – neither here nor there, now nor then, beholden nor believed – where the most evil entities of all time, from the many myths, folklore and legends of the world, gather to face each other in a pure evil game of deadly sin.
...that the wining of the game was not important - because only the loser had to face the ultimate forfeit, believed to almost certainly have been a level of suffering that would be fatal to mere mortals …a bit like Gin.
...that the location and existence of the place – and those that dwelled within it – will forever be in doubt ...but the game they played …there, the doubt ends …for that game is PurEvil, which now – for better or worse – has been resurrected from its mythical prison of eternal damnation, ready to wreak unholy havoc upon all those who dare to play it...
…please drink responsibly!
. . . it’s a card game that's best played by 2 to 4 players - all of whom need to build the best Army of Evil they can for each of the Seven Deadly Rounds …by combining The Stiffs in their hand with the community cards in The Slab on the table.
Just don't! . . . because the loser of each round has to take a Burden of the Sin card - 1 for each of the Seven Deadly Sins - and drink the forfeit stated on it -
. . . 2 Sins and you're out of the game!
The player with the least amount of Sins at the end of 7 rounds is the winner ...OR the first player to achieve the highest score possible in the game … the score of PurEvil !!!
First, decide who is to be "The Damned" - the dealer for the round. If no dedicated dealer is available, players take turns to be The Damned for each new round. Next, take the 7 forfeit cards (red backs) - known as the "Burden of the Sins" - and shuffle them. . .
Place the shuffled Sin cards in a stack to the left of your playing area and then shuffle the 25 character cards (black backs) - known as "The Evils". . .
Deal 3 Evil cards face down in a row to the right of the Sin cards - these are community cards used by all players and are known as "The Slab". The dealer then deals 2 Evil cards to each player for them to hold in their hand - these are secret cards viewed only by the player and are known as "The Stiffs". . .
Place the remaining Evil cards in a stack to the right of The Slab - these are secret player cards that may be used later in the game and are known as "The Dead Pile". The players may now look at their Stiffs before the dealer turns over the first Evil in The Slab - known as "The Descent" - and asks each player in turn, "Do you wish to Purify the Slab?". . .
If a player does not have a pure Stiff in their hand (cards with only 1 red level icon) that matches 1 of The Evils of any pure or un-pure card in The Slab (cards with 2 red level icons), they can not Purify the Slab, but if they do have matching icons - jump to Step 6. After all the players have been asked their choice to Purify or not, the dealer then turns over the second Evil in The Slab - known as "Purgatory".
If a player has a pure Stiff in their hand that matches 1 of The Evils of any pure or un-pure card in The Slab, they can Purify it - by placing their pure Stiff on top of the card they wish to Purify in The Slab and then taking a new secret card from the top of The Dead Pile . . .
After all the players have made their choice to Purify or not for the second time, the dealer then turns over the last Evil in The Slab - known as "Damnation". The dealer then asks each player one last time, "Do you wish to Purify the Slab?" . . .
As before, if a player has a pure Stiff in their hand that matches 1 of The Evils of any pure or un-pure card in The Slab, they can Purify it if they wish - always taking into account that any new card you get from the top of The Dead Pile could be better or could be worst... it's called "Gambling". . .
After all the players have made their choice to Purify or not for the last time, the round is over and the dealer asks each player in turn to "Declare their Army of Evil". The player with the lowest score for the round MUST take a Sin card from the top of the Sin stack and say, "I accept the Burden of the Sin", before drinking the applicable forfeit as stated on the card.
